Sidemount Diver Course

Sidemount Diver Course: Duration of 2 to 3 days

The IANTD “Sidemount Diver” course (International Association of Technical Divers and Nitrox) is a specific training for diving in a “sidemount” configuration. This configuration involves wearing dive tanks on the sides of the diver’s body rather than on the back, offering advantages in terms of flexibility and equipment redundancy. Here’s what you will learn during the course:

Sidemount Configuration: During the training, you will learn the basics of the sidemount configuration, including how to attach and adjust tanks on the sides of your body, how to handle valves and regulators, and how to maintain balanced buoyancy with this setup.

Theory and Knowledge: You will study the theoretical principles of sidemount diving, including the pros and cons of this configuration, gas management procedures, dive planning, and dive safety.

Pool or Shallow Water Practice: Before diving in open water, you will perform practical exercises in a pool or shallow water environment to familiarize yourself with the sidemount configuration and develop your equipment handling and buoyancy skills.

Open Water Dives: Once you have mastered the basic skills, you will conduct open water dives using the sidemount configuration. You will learn to dive using this setup and manage the specific aspects of this diving method.

Gas Management: A significant portion of the course will focus on gas management in sidemount diving. You will learn how to use dive tanks effectively to extend your dive time and smoothly transition between tanks when necessary.

Flexibility and Redundancy: The sidemount configuration provides equipment redundancy, meaning you will have two dive tanks in case of need. You will learn to take advantage of this redundancy for safer and more flexible diving.

Certification: Upon successfully completing the IANTD “Sidemount Diver” course, you will receive a certification allowing you to dive in a sidemount configuration, opening up new diving possibilities with this unique setup.

Sidemount configuration is gaining popularity among technical divers and cave divers because it offers better mobility and optimal gas management. Being located in Mexico, part of our training will take place in cenotes, allowing you to explore and dive in one of the regions of the world where sidemount configuration is highly developed.
