The “IANTD Open Water Instructor and Open Water Nitrox Instructor” courses are training programs designed for IANTD Divemasters or equivalent individuals who wish to become dive instructors. Upon successful completion of the evaluation, they will be authorized to teach IANTD’s Open Water Diver, Nitrox Diver, Advanced Diver, Deep Diver, Rescue Diver, and Divemaster programs to new divers. Becoming an instructor is an important step for those who want to share their passion for diving and contribute to training new competent and responsible divers.
Here is a summary of the content of the “IANTD Instructor” course:
Prerequisites: Before enrolling in the “Open Water Instructor or Open Water Nitrox Instructor” course, you must be certified as an “IANTD Divemaster” or equivalent and have a minimum of 100 dives.
Pedagogical Training: The “Instructor” course includes detailed pedagogical training to teach you the principles of teaching, class management, teaching techniques, communication with students, and how to create a safe and positive learning environment.
Academic Knowledge: You will deepen your knowledge of IANTD standards, diving principles, safety rules, physiology, gas management, diving equipment, and other diving-related topics to be able to convey this information to students.
Confined Water Training: You will learn to teach diving skills in confined environments, including pool and cenote exercises, as well as basic diving techniques. This will prepare you to teach future divers all the necessary basic exercises at the beginning of their training.
Natural Environment Training: You will learn to supervise beginner and more experienced divers during their open water dives, providing them with the guidance, supervision, and assistance needed to ensure their safety and success. Thus, you will be evaluated on exercises from the Open Water, Advanced Diver, Nitrox Diver (for Open Water Nitrox Instructor candidates), Deep Diver, Rescue Diver, and Divemaster courses.
Candidate Instructor Evaluation and Student Evaluation: You will be trained in evaluating students’ skills and providing constructive feedback to help them progress as divers.
Ethics and Standards: You will learn IANTD’s safety standards and ethical guidelines for teaching diving, as well as the role and responsibility of an instructor.
Field Internships: Part of the course may include supervised internships with an Assistant Trainer (Course Director), where you will assist in dive courses and teach under supervision.
After successfully completing the “IANTD Instructor” course, you will be qualified to teach numerous IANTD programs, allowing you to safely introduce new divers to the underwater world. However, being a dive instructor is a significant responsibility that requires a commitment to the safety and well-being of your students, as well as a deep love for diving. I am personally committed to training you in the best possible way to fulfill your passion and dream of becoming an instructor with this fantastic agency.
